Following the draw held on Thursday in London for the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers, the Romanian women's tennis team will play in Group A alongside Canada and Japan, informs Agerpres.
The group matches will take place in a round-robin format, and the six group winners will join host country China and 2024 world champion Italy in the 2025 Finals.
The qualifying ties will be played across six group events, commencing on April 7, and will consist of three teams per group. Each three-day event will be held in one location and played on a round-robin basis. The nations finishing in 2nd and 3rd place in each group will compete in the 2025 play-offs, alongside the best-performing teams from the 2025 regional Group I events.
The traditional home-or-away ties will return in the Qualifiers and Play-offs from 2026 onwards.
There is one seed in each qualifiers group, and seedings are based on the most recent Billie Jean King Cup Nations Rankings at the time of the draw.
Composition of the qualifier groups:
Group A (Japan): Canada (seed No. 1), Romania, Japan;
Group B (Czech Republic): Czech Republic (2), Spain, Brazil;
Group C (Slovakia): Slovakia (3), USA, Denmark;
