Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, said on Thursday, when asked about the calls for the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis, that he had no discussions with the head of state.
"I have not had any discussion with Mr. President Klaus Iohannis," said Marcel Ciolacu, after the PSD National Political Council meeting, asked if they discussed the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis, as proposed by Social Democrat Mihai Fifor.
In his turn, PSD MP Mihai Ghigiu said that there was no such discussion in the party.
"I would like to clarify that Mr. President Klaus Iohannis is still in office, in a legal mandate, in an extension of mandate. We can talk about the appropriateness of continuing in office, we each have our own opinions, but legally, because we have been seeing in the public space this rolling snowball that he is an illegitimate president, we have a very clear decision of the Constitutional Court, which says that Klaus Iohannis remains the president of Romania until the new president is sworn in," Ghigiu said.
On January 22, PSD MP Mihai Fifor said President Klaus Iohannis should resign. "The most responsible decision Klaus Iohannis should take would be to resign as president on February 4," Fifor wrote on Facebook. AGERPRES
