The construction permit for the Poiana tunnel, on the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway (A1), has been issued, and the Italian contractor is mobilized to the site and is carrying out preparatory work for the construction of the access areas of the TBM installation, with which the two galleries will be drilled, announced, on Tuesday, the Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu.
"The Construction Authorization was issued for the Poiana tunnel, on the Sibiu-Pitessti Highway (A1). It is the longest tunnel on this highway and will be built on Section 3 (Cornetu-Tigveni).(...) The two galleries will be drilled with TBM technology. The Italian contractor is mobilized at the site and is now carrying out preparatory work for the construction of the access areas of the TBM installation," the minister wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, the Poiana tunnel consists of two galleries with two lanes in each direction, respectively the gallery on track 1, with a length of 1,780 m (Sibiu - Pitesti direction), and the gallery on track 2 with a length of 1,778.11 m (direction Pitesti-Sibiu).
The works on Section 3 (37.4 km) of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway must be completed by November 2027 (according to the contract), Grindeanu stated.
The Webuild (Astaldi) - Tancrad (Italy - Romania) association was designated as the builder of this section.
The Sibiu-Pitesti highway (consisting of 5 sections) will have a length of 122.11 km and is part of the 4th Pan-European Corridor, which crosses Romania from East to West (between Constanta Port and the Nadlac Border Crossing Point). AGERPRES
