Romania has demonstrated since 2022, since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, that it has the ability to quickly adapt to international contexts and to act in an integrated and strategic manner together with NATO and EU partners, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu said on Monday during the 11th High-level Meeting in Quint format in Chisinau, informs Agerpres.
"We discussed today in Chisinau, during the 11th High-level Meeting in Quint format, about the measures taken after the start of the conflict in Ukraine. Even since 2022, Romania has demonstrated the ability to quickly adapt to international contexts. I presented the measures we have taken since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, among which is the increase in the operational capacity of the Port Constanta, the Port of Galati and the Sulina Canal. We have also operationalized the railway and road infrastructure in the main ports. Through all these measures, we have unequivocally demonstrated that we have the ability to act in an integrated and strategic manner together with NATO and EU partners," Grindeanu wrote on his Facebook account.
He explained that through the measures taken it was possible to transit through Romania more than 70 million tonnes of goods, of which more than 55 million tonnes were grains and agricultural products. "We will ensure navigability on the Sulina Canal 24/24 and we will restore the railway infrastructure in the Ports of Constanta and Galati. The Port of Constanta has practically become the most important port on the Black Sea at the present time", Grindeanu pointed out.
Also, the head of the Transport Ministry mentioned that the road and railway infrastructure in the area of the border crossing points with Ukraine and with the Republic of Moldova has been significantly improved, and all this infrastructure will remain operational even after the end of the conflict and will provide Romania with one of the more important roles as the starting point for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
"Implicitly, this status will bring a series of important benefits for the Romanian economy and for the Romanian workforce, especially in the context where most of the operations of the companies involved in the reconstruction will be coordinated from the territory of Romania. In addition, the taxes and fees paid by the companies that will relocate here will bring more income to the state budget, and this money will be used for the further development of the Romanian economy and infrastructure", he added.
In his opinion, one of the important effects aims at increasing the attractiveness of Romania for investors.
"I believe that the efforts made by the Romanians, together with the other partners, must and will be rewarded. We have demonstrated that we are capable of solidarity and I expect that now, those whom we supported, will in turn demonstrate their appreciation for the efforts made by us", the minister of transport also wrote on his social media account.
