Romanian tennis players Ana Bogdan and Anca Todoni debuted with victories, on Friday, in the qualifications of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane (Australia), which has a total prize pool of 1,520,600 US dollars and marks the debut of the new competitive season.
Ana Bogdan (32 years old, 114 WTA) defeated Australian Arina Rodionova (35 years old, 164 WTA), advanced in the first preliminary round, 6-1, 6-2, in 64 minutes.
Anca Todoni (20 years old, 118 WTA) won just as easily against Swedish Mirjam Bjorklund (26 years old, 770 WTA), 6-1, 6-2, in 68 minutes.
The Romanians each won cheques of 8,900 US dollars and 13 WTA points, Agerpres informs.
Ana Bogdan will face Colombian Emiliana Arango (24 years old, 169 WTA) in the decisive match for access to the main draw in singles, and Anca Todoni will meet Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (30 years old, 110 WTA).
