Romania's meat production decreased in November 2024 for all animal and poultry species compared to the previous month, except for sheep and goats, where there was an increase of 4.45%, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Monday.
Thus, in November 2024, 312,000 pigs were slaughtered, a decrease of 9.03% compared to October 2024, when 343,000 pigs were slaughtered. Compared to the same period in 2023, the number of slaughtered pigs was 5.4% higher (up from 296,000 head). Pork production totaled 28,434 tonnes in November 2024, a decrease of 7.2% compared to October, but an increase of almost 9.5% compared to the same month in 2023.
Statistical data shows that in the penultimate month of last year, 26.585 million poultry were slaughtered, a decrease of 11.31% compared to the previous month (29.976 million head) and a decrease of 1.78% compared to November 2023 (27.068 million head).
Regarding beef production, it totaled 6,639 tonnes in November of this year, a decrease of 4.58% compared to October 2024, when production was 6,958 tonnes. Compared to November 2023, when 6,870 tons were recorded, there was a decrease of 3.36%.For sheep and goats, the carcass weight increased in November 2024, but the number of animals slaughtered decreased compared to the previous month.
Sheep and goat meat production increased 4.45% in November 2024, reaching 4,557 tonnes, up from 4,363 tonnes in October 2024. Compared to November 2023, sheep and goat meat production dropped 4.74%.According to INS, in November 2024, 313,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered, 2.8% fewer than in October 2024, when 322,000 animals were slaughtered. In November 2023, the number of sheep and goats slaughtered totaled 325,000.
