The National Culture Day of Romania will be celebrated in Stockholm on Wednesday, starting 18:00, with an extraordinary recital of poetry and classical music dedicated to the poet Mihai Eminescu, on the 75th anniversary of his birth, informs Agerpres.
The event, performed by the Swedish soprano Siri Krosness, the pianist Stefan Vartejaru and actress Luiza Stanescu, is organized by the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) Stockholm at its headquarters in Skeppsbron 20.
According to a press release from the ICR Stockholm, the musical program, performed by young musicians Siri Krosness and Stefan Vartejaru, is composed of works by Nicolae Bretan ("Somnoroase pasarele" (Sleepy birds), "Si daca ramuri bat in geam" (If branches...), "Ce te legeni, codrule?" (Why do you swing, oh Forest?), poetry by Mihai Eminescu), by George Enescu (Sept Chansons de Clement Marot, Op.15), by Wilhelm Stenhammar (5 sanger till dikter av Bo Bergman, Op.20) and by Guilelm Sorban ("Pe langa plopii fara sot" (Along the uneven row of poplars), poem by Mihai Eminescu, arrangement by Stefan Vartejaru).
Music will accompany poems by Eminescu recited by Luiza Stanescu and Siri Krosness, translated into Swedish by Inger Johansson, who was recently awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, in the rank of Grand Officer, Category F - 'Promotion of culture', "in appreciation for her dedication and talent in translating into Swedish an important number of Romanian literary works, thus contributing to the promotion of Romanian culture in the Kingdom of Sweden".
