The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) has decided to recheck and recount all ballot papers containing the valid and invalid votes cast in the elections for the office of President of Romania on November 24, 2024
CCR calls for recount of votes from first round of presidential elections
”On November 28, 2024, the Plenum of the Constitutional Court examined the request for the annulment of the elections for the office of President of Romania on November 24, 2024, submitted by Mr. Cristian Vasile Terheş (File No. 3671F/2024), and having regard to Article 146 letter f) of the Constitution, Article 3 of Law No. 370/2004 for the election of the President of Romania, as well as Articles 37 and 76 of Law No. 47/1992 on the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Court, by unanimous vote, ordered:
1. To recheck and recount all ballots containing the valid and invalid votes cast in the elections for the office of President of Romania on November 24, 2024.
2. Submission of the results of the rechecking and recount to the Constitutional Court by the Central Electoral Office.
3. Court date for November 29, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.”, reads a CCR press release.
In the same meeting, the plenary of the CCR unanimously rejected Sebastian-Constantin Popescu's request to annul the elections as out of time.
The decisions are final and will be communicated to the Central Electoral Bureau.
The arguments used in the reasoning of the decisions pronounced by the Constitutional Court will be presented in the decisions, which will be published in the Official Gazette of Romania, Part I.
