The five final nominees for the 2025 Lux European Audience Film Award - Animal, Julie Keeps Quiet, Dahomey, Flow, and Intercepted - which bring together Romania, Greece, Austria, Cyprus, Bulgaria, France, Latvia, Belgium, Sweden, Ukraine, Canada, Senegal, Benin as co-producing countries, will be screened at the Elvire Popesco cinema theater in Bucharest between January 29 and February 1, as part of the LUX Film Days 2025, informs Agerpres.
Every year, the European Parliament and the European Film Academy, in partnership with the European Commission and Europa Cinemas, celebrate the European filmmaking industry by bringing to the attention of the audiences movies that highlight social, political and cultural issues in Europe.
The LUX Film Days 2025 will debut on January 29, with the screening of the Greece, Austria, Romania, Cyprus, Bulgaria co-production Animal, directed by Sofia Exarchou. A discussion with editor Dragos Apetri, who was part of the film's production team, will take place at the end of the screening.
Entry to the LUX Film Days screenings is free, based on prior booking and subject to availability.
After watching the films, viewers across the EU are invited to rate them on the luxaward.eu website. Voting for the LUX Audience Award is open until April 2025 and offers the chance to win a series of exciting prizes, including a trip to the European Parliament to attend the LUX Prize award ceremony in April 2025 and to meet the directors and film crews of the nominated films.
Initiated in 2007 by the European Parliament, the LUX European Film Award aims to distribute EU films of high artistic quality, reflecting cultural diversity in Europe and beyond, and addressing issues of common interest such as human dignity, equality, non-discrimination, inclusion, tolerance, justice and solidarity.
The European Parliament provides subtitles in the 24 official EU languages for all finalist films and organizes free screenings in cinemas across Europe until April 2025.
At the 2025 edition, the Award is complemented by the Young Talents Program, involving young film professionals in promoting European values and the LUX Audience Award project
