President Klaus Iohannis on Saturday expressed his shock at the terrorist attack in Magdeburg, stating that Romania stands in solidarity with the German people in these difficult times.
"Shocked by the terrorist attack in Magdeburg, where innocent people were killed and injured. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. Romania stands in solidarity with the German people in these difficult times," Iohannis wrote on the X platform.
Between 60 and 80 people were injured and at least two people died after a car drove into a crowd at a Christmas fair in the northern German city of Magdeburg on Friday.
The suspect in the attack is currently in police custody. He is a doctor in his 50s who lives and works in Bernburg, a city south of Magdeburg, said the premier of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff.
The suspect is originally from Saudi Arabia, but has been in Germany since 2006 and has permanent residency. AGERPRES
