Justice minister Radu Marinescu on Thursday called for responsibility and maturity in the public discourse, following the statements made by AUR (Alliace for the Union of Romanians) chair George Simion, who said that he only congratulated Nicusor Dan after winning the elections because he did not want to see "bloodshed."
The minister of justice said that such type of approaches further divide the Romanian society.
"The elections took place. We have a result. If they intend to challenge it, there are legal ways that can be followed. My call would be for responsibility, for maturity in the public discourse and to avoid any kind of approach that would further divide Romanian society. I believe that we need a constructive attitude at the moment, we need to manage public affairs, to continue the development path of our country and not to waste ourselves in disputes that I believe would be, ultimately, unproductive," stated Radu Marinescu, before the government meeting, when asked how he assessed George Simion's statements regarding a "bloodshed."
The leader of AUR, George Simion, on Tuesday said that he would challenge the result of the presidential elections of May 18 with the Constitutional Court. In this context, he mentioned the reason why he congratulated Nicusor Dan.
"The reason why I, considering the numbers from the polling stations, congratulated Nicusor Dan, was because I love Romania, I love the Romanian people and I never want to see bloodshed in our country, which would justify chaos and the takeover of power by some," said Simion. AGERPRES
