Only 16% of Romanians are thinking of buying an electric car next year, while a significant share, around 26%, are undecided and are still exploring the idea, shows a sociological research carried out for the despre-energie.ro platform, a project of the companies E.ON and Delgaz Grid, informs Agerpres.
The majority of the respondents, almost 58%, said that they have no intention of making such a purchase.
According to a press release sent on Tuesday to AGERPRES, the results of the study show that young people up to 35 years old are more interested in buying an electric car next year, 42% of them contemplating buying such a car, compared with the respondents from the other age groups.
When asked about the reasons why they would buy an electric car, the participants in the study indicated, among other reasons: reduced pollution (42%), lower maintenance and fuel costs compared to cars with conventional engines (24.7%), the advanced technology used in electrical cars (11.6%), but also the tax benefits and subsidies they can enjoy by purchasing such a vehicle (9.6%).
On the other hand, the high overall price is for 88% of the respondents the main impediment in purchasing an electric car. Only 12% of those asked do not see the purchase price as a reason to give up.
According to the same study, almost 85% of the people interviewed believe that the infrastructure of charging stations is insufficiently developed at this point, which is also the reason making them undecided when it comes to becoming owners of such electric cars, while this aspect does not intimidate another 15% of the Romanians, who believe that they could manage with the existing stations.
The sociological research was carried out by Sondaje Marketing Relatii Publice SRL, between August 26 and September 11, 2024, on a sample of 1,004 online users, with an error margin of +/-3%, being considered representative for the adult population of Romania, while also considering the limitations of online scrolling.
