Traffic Police Brigade officers on Wednesday issued 429 fines for speeding violations and suspended 30 driver's licenses during the Speed Marathon 2025 operation.
Of the 30 licenses suspended, 25 were for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h, three for exceeding it by more than 70 km/h, and two for failing to comply with lawful stop signals given by traffic police officers.
"On April 9, officers from the Traffic Police Brigade used radar equipment to identify drivers who did not comply with the legal speed limits on public roads in the capital," reads a press release from the Traffic Police Brigade sent to AGERPRES on Thursday.
The Speed operation is being conducted Monday to Sunday, as part of the 2025 European Operations Programme by the network of European traffic police forces (ROADPOL). It aims to monitor compliance with legal speed limits and prevent road incidents caused by excessive speed.
