The Romanian-Hungarian pair Monica Niculescu/Fanny Stollar qualified, on Thursday, for the final of the doubles event of the WTA 250 tennis tournament in Hobart (Australia), which has a prize pool of 275,094 US dollars.
Niculescu and Stollar first defeated in the quarterfinals the couple Ulrikke Eikeri (Norway)/Makoto Ninomiya (Japan), 6-1, 7-6 (11/9). Niculescu and Stollar achieved the victory after one hour and 28 minutes of playing against the 2nd seeded.
The Romanian-Hungarian pair reached the final directly after the withdrawal of the pair they were supposed to face in the semifinals, Sofia Kenin (USA)/Magda Linette (Poland), 3rd seeded, according to the WTA website.
Niculescu and Stollar won a cheque of 7,430 US dollars and 163 WTA points in doubles for reaching this far in the competition.
Niculescu has won the Tasmanian tournament in doubles twice before, in 2012 with Irina Begu, and in 2014 with Klara Koukalova (Czech Republic). Raluca Olaru also won a title in 2017, with Ukrainian Olga Savciuk.
