The President of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, on Wednesday had a meeting with Stephane Sejourne, Executive Vice-President for Prosperity and Industrial Strategy of the European Commission, on which occasion he underscored Romania's commitment to actively contribute to the strengthening of the EU, while emphasising the need to implement reforms and shape our country as a regional industrial hub.
According to a press release of the Senate, the choice of Romania as the destination for one of Stephane Sejourne's first visits, at the beginning of his mandate, "represents a positive signal regarding the position and importance of our country within the European Union."
The agenda of the discussions included topical issues regarding changes in the automotive industry, the valorization of secondary raw materials by implementing the principles of the circular economy, as well as the identification of common solutions to strengthen European industrial competitiveness, according to the press release posted on the Senate website.
"The discussions between the two officials focused on the current political context, both at the national and European level, highlighting the similarities with the situations encountered in other European Union member states. This approach allowed for an open exchange of ideas on the common challenges and opportunities in the current socio-economic context, with an emphasis on the need for debureaucratization," the same source mentions."Another important aspect discussed was Romania's potential to become a key player in the production of raw materials in Europe. Stephane Sejourne highlighted this strategic advantage of our country," the press release states.
Stephane Sejourne stressed the importance of close cooperation between European and national institutions in order to effectively respond to current challenges, from economic crises to the green and digital transition.According to the abovementioned press release, the meeting represents "a significant step in strengthening relations between Romania and the European institutions, reconfirming mutual support in promoting common strategic objectives."
