Revolut makes 9,000 assets, namely stocks, ETFs, corporate and government bonds, available to Romanian customers to invest in 2025, according to a press release of the bank.
Investments in stocks and ETF investment plans are commission-free, depending on the type of Revolut plan held by the customer.
Also from January 2025, Revolut has brought a new product to its portfolio and ETF investment plans with zero commission, from an investment of just 1 euro. This product allows automatic setting of purchases, at certain periods of time, depending on the customer's preferences. Thus, interested users can invest in over 300 ETFs, including iShares Core MSCI World, Vanguard S&P 500, Amundi MSCI Emerging Markets, and these transactions are commission-free.
Revolut customers can also invest from 1 euro/1 dollar in government bonds, including those issued by the Romanian Government, directly through the application, in the Bonds section (Romania 2.75% with maturity in 10/25 and yield to maturity of 2.60%, Romania 5.25% with maturity in 05/32 and yield to maturity of 5.85%, Romania 6.625% with maturity in 09/29 and yield to maturity of 4.98%).
The bank mentions that bonds issued by states or private companies can be a suitable start for those who do not want to take too much risk and want a diverse portfolio. Good credit ratings and protection against inflation further contribute to their attractiveness for investors seeking stability and potentially reliable returns. Both governments and corporations use bonds as a way to raise capital, offering investors the chance to lend money to these entities in exchange for periodic interest payments and repayment of the principal.
Revolut also presents the main trends observed in the field of investments among its customers in Romania last year. The company's internal data showed an increase in interest in investment products, with the number of Romanian customers who invested with Revolut increasing by 89% compared to 2023.
Revolut's data shows that women are increasingly interested in this area, even if investments remained a popular way to increase their wealth, especially among men, who have three times more open trading accounts and an average portfolio three times larger than that of women (3,600 euros vs. 1,300 euros). Revolut saw a 90% increase in the number of women opening investment accounts in 2024, a higher rate than the 82% rate for men. The representative Romanian investor for Revolut is a 35-year-old millennial, with the same average age recorded for both women and men.
Technology stocks continued to dominate trends in Romania and Europe. NVIDIA positioned itself as the most traded stock on US stock exchanges, especially amid increased investor enthusiasm for developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The company's share price increased by 186% in 2024.
Vanguard S&P 500 ETF (Dist) was the most attractive exchange-traded fund for Romanian clients and had a growth of 35% in 2024. Fusion Fuel Green positioned itself as the most sold and most bought European stock, and the most traded bond by Romanian investors was European Investment Bank 2.5% 10/24. AGERPRES
