The Social Democratic Party (PSD), the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) and the group of national minorities have agreed to have a joint candidate for the Presidency in the person of Crin Antonescu, political sources said on Monday.
This decision is going to be voted on in the leadership bodies of each party, according to the quoted sources.
PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu pointed out at the end of last week that one of the options for the presidential candidacy discussed within the coalition was Crin Antonescu.
The Liberals also maintained that Antonescu would be a good option for the presidential race. PNL Suceava branch president Gheorghe Flutur said that the proposal for Crin Antonescu's candidacy for the Presidency of Romania is "very good," arguing that he is "a committed pro-European" and "an asset for guaranteeing the country's pro-Western path."
