Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, on a working visit to Brussels, continued his series of meetings with high officials of the European Union, being received at the European Parliament by Roberta Metsola, head of the European legislature, inform agerpres.ro.
After the welcome, the two high-ranking officials held talks at the European Parliament headquarters.
The visit to Brussels of the delegation led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu is also taking place against the background of the beginning of a new institutional cycle at the European level, following the European Parliament elections held in June, as well as the adoption of the new Strategic Agenda for the period 2024-2029, the Government said in a press release issued ahead of the working trip.
According to the release, the discussions of the Romanian prime minister's meeting with the president of the European Parliament, will cover, besides topical issues of European interest, Romania's prospect of full accession to the Schengen Area.
During the first part of the working visit, the Romanian prime minister met in Brussels with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, and with the President-elect of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
During his meeting with Antonio Costa, Ciolacu presented him with a jersey signed by the former Romanian national team footballer Basarab Panduru, who has also played, at club level, for the Portuguese teams Benfica Lisbon and FC Porto.
The government delegation accompanying Prime Minister Ciolacu to Brussels includes, among others, Foreign Affairs Minister Luminita Odobescu and Defence Minister Angel Tilvar.
