Over two million cigarettes, worth 480,000 euros, were discovered at the Nadlac II Border Crossing Point on Tuesday, inside a truck driven by a Romanian transporting machinery to the Netherlands.
"A 36-year-old Romanian citizen, driving a road train registered in Romania, presented himself for border formalities at the entrance to the country. According to the cargo accompanying documents, the truck was traveling on the Netherlands-Romania route, carrying various machinery. During the specific inspection, border police discovered a total of 2.4 million cigarettes (120,000 cigarette packs) in the freight compartment, valued at 2,400,000 lei (480,000 euro)," reported the Arad Border Police.
The entire quantity of cigarettes was seized for confiscation, and a criminal case was opened for "holding goods outside the fiscal warehouse or selling excise products that are not marked or are improperly marked or marked with false stamps beyond the legal limit."
