The number of job vacancies decreased decreased by 0.6 percentage points (-2,400), nationwide, in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
According to the same source, in the reference period, the most relevant decreases in the rate of available jobs were observed in: water distribution; sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-0.68 percentage points), financial intermediation and insurance (-0.31 percentage points), respectively health and social assistance (-0.24 percentage points).
The number of job vacancies experienced more significant decreases in manufacturing (-2,200 jobs), health and social assistance (-800) and water supply; sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-700).
At the opposite end of the scale, the most significant increases, both in terms of the rate and the number of job vacancies, were recorded in: professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.51 percentage points, respectively +800 vacancies) and in public administration (+0.27 percentage points, +800).
By major occupational groups, in the first three months of 2025, the highest values of the job vacancy rate were found among the occupations of administrative officials - major group 4 (0.80%), respectively specialists in various fields of activity - major group 2 (0.76%).
At the same time, the number of job vacancies experienced the highest values among the occupations of specialists in various fields of activity - major group 2 (9,300 positions) and among workers in the services sector - major group 5 (4,900 positions).
On the other hand, the lowest values of the two indicators were observed for the occupations of skilled workers in agriculture, forestry and fishing - major group 6 (0.18%, respectively 40 jobs) and of members of the legislative body, the executive, senior leaders of the public administration, managers and senior civil servants - major group 1 (0.37%, respectively 1,400 available positions).
According to the official data, compared to the previous quarter, in the period January - March 2025, the most relevant decreases in the vacancy rate were recorded in: water distribution; sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-0.35 percentage points), as well as in health and social assistance (-0.31 percentage points).
Regarding the number of vacancies, the most pronounced decreases were found in health and social assistance and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-1,100 positions, for each).
In contrast, significant increases in the vacancy rate were recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.37 percentage points), constructions (+0.19 percentage points) and financial intermediation and insurance (+0.18 percentage points).
Also, positive results were recorded in the areas of: constructions (+900 vacancies) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+600).
INS data reveal that over 21% of the total number of vacancies registered at the national level were counted in the budgetary sector. Thus, 3,800 positions were found in public administration, 2,200 in health and social assistance, and 1,100 in education.
On the other hand, the vacancy rate recorded the lowest values in other service activities (0.22%), respectively in the extractive industry (0.23%). The fewest available jobs were found in real estate transactions and in the extractive industry and other service activities. AGERPRES
