The number of construction permits issued for residential buildings increased by 3.3%, in the first 11 months of 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to data published on Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INS).
According to the cited source, between January 1 and November 30, 2024, 33,156 building permits were issued for residential buildings, and increases were recorded in the following development regions: South-Muntenia and West (+391 permits each), Bucharest-Ilfov (+224), North-East (+99), North-West (+62), South-West Oltenia (+59) and Southeast (+6).
On the other hand, the only decrease in the number of building permits was recorded in the Centru development region (-172).The INS data reveals that, at the level of November last year, compared to the same period in 2023, there is an increase in both the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (+1.1%), and the total usable area (+6%).
In a territorial profile, this increase in the number of building permits issued for residential buildings (+29) is reflected in the following development regions: West (+64 permits), Bucharest-Ilfov (+28), South-East (+11 ), Center (+5) and South-Muntenia (+4). Conversely, decreases were registered in: North-West (-42 authorizations), North-East (-24) and South-West Oltenia (-17).At the opposite pole, increases were reported in: South-Muntenia (+20,062 sq m), West (+11,555 sq m) and North-West (+4,051 sq m).
According to official statistics, from one month to the next (November vs October 2024), the number of building permits for residential buildings decreased by 13.8%, to a total usable area of 671,217 sq m (-35.3%). Of the total number of building permits granted, almost three quarters (72.3%) are for the rural area.The decrease is reflected in the following development regions: Bucharest-Ilfov (-122 permits), South-Muntenia (-99), North-East (-88), South-West Oltenia (-63), North-West (-55 ), Center (-26) and West (-6). The only increase was registered in the South-East development region (+23 authorizations).
Regarding building permits for non-residential buildings, in November 2024 compared to October, the same year, their number decreased by 6.5%, with a total usable area of 271,944 sq m (-2.2%).
In addition, there was a decrease in the usable area of building permits issued for non-residential buildings (-6,058 sq m), reflected in the following development regions: South-East (-60,161 sq m), South-West Oltenia (-4,243 sq m) and Center (-387 sqm).
At the same time, increases were registered in: South-Muntenia (+23,161 sq m), Bucharest-Ilfov (+14,426 sq m), North-West (+13,454 sq m), West (+3,857 sq m) and North-East (+3,835 sqm).
