The documentary 'Eminescu's Trunk' directed by Cristian Radu Nema will be shown on January 15 at a gala screening at the Moldovan Academy of Sciences after the festive meeting dedicated to the National Culture Day and the celebration of the 175th anniversary of poet Mihai Eminescu's birth in a twin event organized by the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and the Romanian Academy, taking place simultaneously in Bucharest and Chisinau.
The film follows the imaginary trajectory of Mihai Eminescu's travel trunk. Attending an auction where the item that belonged to the great Romanian poet was put up for sale, a fervent admirer of Eminescu buys it and takes it home. The young man then becomes engrossed with discovering the history of the trunk and the manuscripts the poet kept inside.
The film's national premiere was at the Bucharest Cesianu Palace in 2019, on National Culture Day, and had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May of the same year.
The Romanian Academy will present the photo-documentary exhibition "Romanian Identity/European Identity", dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Eminescu's birth, organized by the Bucharest City Hall through the National Museum of Romanian Literature.
The Madrigal - Marin Constantin National Chamber Choir will provide a musical moment.
In the Azure Hall of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, the "Moldova" Choral Chapel of the Teleradio-Moldova Public Radio Broadcaster will perform the "Ode to Eminescu" by Professor Constantin Rusnac, under the baton of conductor Gabriela Tocari.
The 'Eminesciana 2025' exhibition showcasing books and photos is also part of the program.
On the 175th anniversary of the birth of Mihai Eminescu, an icon of national and universal literature, the Romanian Academy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova proposed the declaration of 2025 as the Year of Mihai Eminescu, an action supported by the government of the Republic of Moldova. Subsequently, the Parliament in Chisinau decreed 2025 as the Mihai Eminescu Year.
