The installation of a 1 MW state-of-the-art solar power station on the platform of the Cluj Napoca-based pharmaceutical company Terapia has been finalized, with the new energy facility expected to reduce conventional energy consumption by 10-15% and to decrease carbon emissions by 746.8 tons of CO2 equivalent per year, the company said in a release, informs Agerpres.
The project carried out by Energobit and co-financed through the National Recovery and Resilience Program represents an important step in Terapia's strategy for renewable energy transition.
In addition, as part of its regeneration, circular energy, recycling and sustainability plan for the Cluj-Napoca platform, Terapia intends to put up another two ground- and roof-mounted solar systems, as well as advanced energy storage capacities. These investments will allow over 60% of the energy needed to operate the factory to come from renewable and non-polluting sources, considerably reducing the environmental impact of the company's activities.
Specifically, by the end of 2026, Terapia aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 2,987 tons of CO2 equivalent annually, by reaching a total of 3 MW installed capacity.
Terapia is the largest manufacturer of generics, specialty and OTC drugs in Romania. Since March 2015, it has become part of Sun Pharma, a a leading pharmaceutical research and development company with 42 production sites and with a portfolio of over 2,000 innovative, generic and OTC medicines that are distributed in over 100 countries all over the world.
